KENYA MET ISSUES 5-DAY WEATHER FORECAST AFTER RAINFALL IN PARTS OF THE COUNTRY

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a five-day weather outlook warning of continued rainfall in parts of the country, alongside soaring temperatures and strong winds in others.
According to the forecast covering September 9–15, showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, and the Lake Victoria Basin. Counties likely to experience significant rainfall include Nyandarua, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Kericho, and parts of Laikipia.
In contrast, hot and dry conditions are expected in the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions, with daytime highs of up to 37°C in Garissa, Lodwar, and Mandera. Nighttime temperatures in the Central Highlands and parts of the Rift Valley, such as Nyahururu, could fall to as low as 7°C.
The weatherman has also cautioned of strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots, particularly over the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, and northern Kenya—conditions likely to impact maritime activities and local communities.
For Nairobi, morning and afternoon thundershowers are expected early in the week before giving way to hazy sunshine and warmer conditions towards the weekend, with highs of up to 30°C.
KMD has urged Kenyans in rain-prone areas to prepare for possible flooding and slippery roads, while residents in hotter regions have been advised to stay hydrated and protect themselves from the sun.
