KFS DISMISSES KARURA TAKEOVER CLAIMS

Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has dismissed claims that it has taken over the management of Karura Forest from the Friends of Karura Forest (FKF).
KFS Chief Conservator Alex Lemarkoko clarified that the only change involves the collection of entry, parking, and other fees through the government’s eCitizen platform. He assured the public that all existing staff, including scouts, clerks, and cleaners, remain in place and that the co-management agreement with FKF is still intact.
“KFS has not taken over Karura Forest. Operations remain unchanged, and annual passes will continue to be valid,” Lemarkoko said.
The clarification comes after reports suggested that the shift to digital payments signaled a government takeover, sparking public concern. KFS reiterated that security and access arrangements remain normal, with scouts and rangers working together to ensure safety and conservation.
