KITUI COUNTY GEARS UP FOR HISTORIC MASHUJAA DAY CELEBRATIONS

Kitui County is set to make history as it prepares to host the national Mashujaa Day celebrations for the first time on October 20, 2025. With just three months remaining, the government has launched extensive infrastructure projects to ensure the county is ready to accommodate thousands of visitors from across the country. Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo visited Kitui County on Saturday, July 19, 2025, to assess the ongoing preparations. His tour included the construction site of Ithookwe Stadium, the designated venue for the main event, which is expected to hold up to 10,000 attendees upon completion. Once finished Ithookwe Stadium will be one of the largest facilities in the region, marking a significant step forward in Kitui’s development.

Local leaders have praised the project, noting that it will not only serve the upcoming celebrations but also provide a lasting venue for sports, concerts, and other major events. Omollo also visited a new Mini-State Lodge currently under construction, which will host government officials and high profile guests during Mashujaa Day and future events. Additionally, he inspected upgrades at Ithookwe Airstrip, and reviewed a series of roadworks around Kitui, aimed at enhancing travel conveniences and regional connectivity.

The initiatives are part of the national government’s boarder strategy to ensure balanced development across Kenya. Omollo reiterated the importance of inclusivity, stating that no region should feel marginalized. The preparations are expected to stimulate Kitui’s economy, with an influx of visitors creating opportunities for local traders, hoteliers, and transport providers.
