KURIA QUESTIONS RUTO’S 'ECONOMIC OF HANDOUTS' AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

Former Senior Economic Advisor, Moses Kuria has cast doubt on President William Ruto’s approach to youth empowerment, warning against what he calls the “economics of handouts” as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
In a post on X on Sunday, August 10, Kuria posed a referendum-style question to his followers, framing the choice between long-term job creation and short-term giveaways.
“Today is 10th August 2025. We shall go to the next General Elections on 10th August 2027. If you find the following referendum question, how would you vote? Real Jobs Via Production Vs. Economics of Handouts,” Kuria wrote.
His remarks came shortly after President Ruto announced plans to distribute KSh50,000 grants to seventy youth in each of Kenya’s 1,450 wards, alongside tools and equipment for small enterprises. The initiative, implemented in partnership with the World Bank, is aimed at boosting self-employment and supporting small businesses.
Kuria’s comments add to a growing national debate on whether government resources should be directed towards immediate cash transfers or invested in programs that generate sustainable employment and economic growth.
