LIST OF 40 HOSPITALS SUSPENDED BY HEALTH MINISTRY OVER SHA FRAUD

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has suspended 40 hospitals from the Social Health Authority (SHA) programme over alleged fraudulent practices.

Speaking on Friday, Duale said the Ministry will publish the names of the facilities in a Gazette Notice after investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

He stated that the suspension will remain in place until the hospitals comply with all SHA regulations.

“The Social Health Authority has suspended these health facilities found to have engaged in corruption and theft of public resources,” Duale announced.

According to the CS, the affected facilities will not receive any benefits from SHA during the investigations. The government will also recover funds already paid out based on fraudulent claims.

He revealed that some hospitals engaged in multiple billing of patients and inflating charges by labelling outpatients as inpatients.

The Ministry has also suspended eight doctors from Nairobi, Bungoma and Kilifi counties for direct involvement in the schemes. Four clinicians linked to facilities in Nairobi and Homa Bay counties have also been suspended.

Duale said the medics’ user rights on SHA’s digital health platforms have been withdrawn and the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) notified to enforce the decision.

He urged health providers to uphold integrity, warning that those found aiding fraud will be held personally liable.

“Any healthcare provider whose information is used to defraud SHA shall be held personally liable,” he cautioned.
