Police officers at the Kenol Police Station are still grappling with the reality of the situation in which an intruder was found dead at the Control centre on the premises. The man who had reportedly sneaked into the station was found dead while kneeling, raising questions as to how he ended up at the station in the first place. The man was dressed in a clean white shirt, a black hoodie, and grey jeans, but he was barefoot.
Speaking to the Nation, the Murang'a South Police boss, Charity Karimi, stated that they are trying to understand the circumstances surrounding the deceased's death. "The man remains unidentified, and the motive for ending his life in such a dramatic way is still a puzzle," said Karimi. Preliminary investigations show the uncertainty on whether the man's death was related to a coordinated murder inside the police station or if the man harmed himself, leading to his death.
However, Karimi stated that the man walked into the station and went to the Control room, where he harmed himself using a computer cleaner. According to the police boss, a female cleaner heard the deceased making sounds as if gasping for air. The window had to be broken to get to the man. He was later rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The compound in which the station is located houses the offices of the Deputy County Commissioner, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Intelligence Service, and the Kenol courthouse, thus ensuring that the premises are highly secure.
"This is the compound, where the man is said to have bypassed the tight security, sneaked into the station and caused harm to himself," Murang'a Youth Kenol Chapter Forum chairman Peter Mbugua said. According to residents of the area, the dead man had allegedly been spotted earlier at the gambling and bhang dens before his death.
