Residents of Matioli zone in Butali-Chegulo Ward, Malava Constituency, are in shock and grieving after the reported massacre of a 1-month-old son of a brother-in-law by a 39-year-old man in circumstances that are not yet clear.
Confirming the incident, Matioli Location Chief Daniel Chimuche Mlambula reported that the suspect, Amondo Mola, had invited his brother-in-law who had brought the infant for a shaving ceremony — a traditional initiation ceremony among the Luhya.
But the day turned macabre when the baby was reported to have been killed during the visit.
"One of my residents had informed me that one had slaughtered a baby," Chief Mlambula stated.
The child's mother, Mary, had traveled from Nairobi where the baby's father works. She is reported to have traveled home to perform the traditional ritual.
The motive behind the murder is yet unknown. The suspect was arrested and taken to Kabras Police Post, where the investigation has begun. The body of the child was taken to the mortuary.
