MERU WELCOMES PRESIDENT RUTO

President Ruto's on Wednesday, pulled up a huge crowd during his second-day tour of Mt Kenya, visiting Igembe South and Maua, Meru County.

The head of state was also in Tigania West, Meru, where he commissioned the Kibiru Beef Feedlot to boost livestock production in the region, both for local consumption and export.

In this Meru tour, he issued 10,800 title deeds to residents , so they directly benefit from the 40 billion Meru Energy Park, meant to offer them income for the use of their land.

Ruto also said that, the government aims at empowering farmers so as to foster livestock production by restocking animals lost to drought, promoting value addition, and ensuring access to reliable markets .

He added that, the country's objective is to make livestock farming a profitable venture that would help farmers earn income to develop their lives.

In additional , Ruto launched development projects such as , the Maua Sewerage Line that will serve over 13,000 people in Maua and also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Maua Modern Market.

The President who was accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, among other leaders, mentioned on Mirra, a common cash crop in Meru, specifically pointing out on Mirra cartels stating that their days are numbered;
"We have made a declaration here in Maua. All cartels ruining the miraa business should leave this country because we want this trade to thrive like other agricultural sectors,” he said.
“Tunawaambia mambo yao ni matatu. Either wakome ama mambo ya pili tuwapeleke jela ama waende ile safari.”

Ruto, who was speaking in Maua, Meru, outlined several government interventions aimed at boosting miraa farmers' earnings.

He also affirmed on the interventions of his government to boost Mirra farming by; officially classifying miraa as a cash crop, setting new gazetted prices, and expanding export markets in Somaliland and Jubaland, where he had discussed with the presidents.
