Mohan Galot, the billionaire industrialist and owner of London Distillers Kenya(LDK), passed away on June 18, 2025, in the United Kingdom at the age of 80. Born on April 8, 1945, Galot rose from humble beginnings to become one of Kenya’s most prominent businessman, with ventures in textiles, real estate, and alcohol production. He was the son of the late Pusharam and Movni Devi Galot, and husband to Santosh Galot. He had five children, Rita, Nina, Deepa, Avin and Pawan and had several grandchildren.
Under his leadership, LDK grew into one of Kenya’s leading alcohol manufacturers, renowned for popular liquor brands such as Safari Cane and Old Monk Rum. The company earned international awards, winning global recognition at the Monde Selection Awards in Brussels for product excellence. In addition to leading London Distillers Kenya, Galot headed several other prominent Kenyan companies, including King Woolen Mills Ltd, Galot International Ltd, Mohan Meakin Ltd, and Manchester Outfitters Ltd, among others.
He will be cremated on Tuesday, June 24 at 10.30 am at East Hampstead Park Crematorium, South Road Wokingham, RG40 3DW. A prayer meeting will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, with details to be announced.
