**Nairobi Businesswoman Faces Charges Over Alleged Theft of Jewellery and Electronics Worth Nearly KSh 1 Million**
A Nairobi businesswoman, Mary Waithira Gikonyo, has been arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts over allegations of stealing jewellery and electronic devices valued at approximately KSh 933,500 from a home in the Hardy area of Lang’ata. The incident is said to have occurred on March 22, 2025, at a residence along Kumbe Road, where Gikonyo reportedly made away with an assortment of valuable items, including gold jewellery, an iPhone 14, HP laptops, PlayStations, and designer wall clocks.
During the hearing, the prosecution, led by Ismail Jama, urged the court to deny her bail, citing the risk of interference with investigations and recovery of the stolen property. However, her lawyer, John Swaka, argued that the case was rooted in a domestic disagreement and that his client was neither a flight risk nor in a position to tamper with evidence. Principal Magistrate Agnetta Ogonda granted Gikonyo a cash bail of KSh 50,000, pending further mention of the case. The matter will proceed to trial as investigators work to recover the missing valuables.
