Nairobi Hospital launches home blood collection service for vulnerable patients

The Nairobi Hospital has introduced a new home-based blood collection service to make life easier for patients who face challenges visiting hospital labs. The service is aimed at supporting people with chronic illnesses, disabilities, expectant mothers, and children-groups that often struggle with the stress of travel and long hospital waits.

Through the new service, trained medical staff will now visit patients in their homes to collect blood and other samples for testing. Patients can request the service by contacting the hospital through a special phone number or email. A support team will also help with insurance approvals to make the process smooth.

During the official launch at the hospital's main laboratory, CEO Felix Osano said the move is part of the hospital’s push to offer more patient-centered care. “In today’s busy world, this service gives patients the option of receiving care at home or even at their workplace. It saves time and ensures vulnerable groups are not left behind,” he said.

Dr. Rahul Zode, the hospital’s chief pathologist, said the service is affordable for all patients. “It costs just KES 200 per visit and is open to anyone, subject to approval by their insurance provider,” he said. Dr. Zode added that patients’ privacy will be respected, with test results sent securely via password-protected email. Physical copies will also be available on request.

This new home service is part of The Nairobi Hospital’s mission to improve access to essential health services, especially for those who need it most. By bringing diagnostic services closer to patients, the hospital hopes to improve treatment outcomes and offer better care without the inconvenience of travel.
