NAIVASHA MP RELEASED ON KSHS 50,000 BOND OVER INCITEMENT CHARGES

Naivasha Member of Parliament (MP) Jayne Kihara was on Friday, July 18, 2025, released on a personal bond of Kshs 50,000 after appearing at the Milimani Law Courts to answer charges of incitement with intent to provoke a breach of peace.

The charges relate to remarks she allegedly made during the Saba Saba protests, in which she accused President William Ruto of orchestrating chaos in Naivasha by ferrying unknown individuals in National Youth Service (NYS) buses and trucks to Karagita and Mai Mahiu.

According to the charge sheet, Kihara further claimed that police officers were working with the said goons and made no effort to arrest them, suggesting state complicity in the violence.

In her quoted remarks, the MP expressed sympathy for affected residents while warning the president that such tactics could “destroy the country” and would not be tolerated.

Her lawyer, C.N. Kihara, dismissed the charges as frivolous and inappropriate for a third-term legislator, saying such accusations are typically aimed at “drunk men in villages.”

Kihara was arrested on Thursday at her home in Nakuru County, in an incident that was broadcast live on her Facebook page. The arrest came shortly after she met with sand harvesters from Mai Mahiu and had failed to respond to a summons from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding her remarks.

Prominent leaders, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, were present in court to show support during her arraignment.
