Detectives investigating the killing of Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu have obtained new CCTV footage showing a man speaking on his phone just moments before the fatal shooting.
The footage—retrieved on 11 September 2025,—offers fresh leads in the high-profile murder. Detectives believe the man captured on camera could hold crucial information about the killing and have intensified efforts to trace him.
Police are also interrogating two suspects whose vehicles have been impounded for forensic analysis. Investigators are using both CCTV and mobile phone data to retrace Mbobu’s movements on the night of the murder.
An autopsy revealed that Mbobu was shot eight times, with injuries to his neck vessels and spine causing severe bleeding. Two bullets recovered from the body have been submitted for ballistic testing.
Earlier footage tracked the lawyer’s final route from his city centre office through Wabera Street, City Hall Way, Parliament Road and onto Lang’ata and Magadi roads. Nothing was stolen at the scene, deepening the mystery over the motive for the attack.
Detectives say the identity and role of the man on the phone remain unknown as investigations continue.
