NTV ANCHORS' BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION BRINGS KILIFI VILLAGE TO A STANDSTILL

NTV Swahili anchors Lofty Matambo and Fridah Mwaka, popularly known as #TheDuo, celebrated their birthdays in KwaMongo, Pingilikani, Chonyi, on the outskirts of Kilifi Town, in a heartwarming event that left the village buzzing with joy.
Unlike the glitzy city parties often associated with media personalities, the anchors chose a more meaningful path, dedicating the day to widows supported through the Lofty Matambo Foundation. At least 100 widows were gifted food hampers and colourful kangas, turning the celebration into a moving display of compassion and solidarity.
“This is the most fulfilling birthday I have ever celebrated,” Lofty said, adding that the widows’ smiles gave him a joy “beyond words.”
His co-anchor, Fridah Mwaka, admitted the celebration was unlike any she had ever experienced, contrasting it with the usual Nairobi gatherings of nyama choma, cakes, and gifts. “This one has truly touched my heart,” she said.
The event, supported by the Nawiri Tena Initiative and Ahadi Kenya Trust, also drew notable guests including Dr. Stanley Kamau, CEO of Ahadi Kenya Trust, who called for greater protection of widows against land grabbing and other injustices. Representatives from IPOA, Nabati Rolling Mills, and the legal fraternity were also in attendance.
Lofty pledged to replicate such initiatives across all 35 wards in Kilifi County, ensuring widows and vulnerable families receive ongoing support.
The day not only marked a milestone for the anchors but also reaffirmed their commitment to using their public platforms to uplift communities.
