OCTOPIZZO ENDORSES GEORGE RUTO’S PASSION FOR MATATU CULTURE, URGES KENYANS TO SEPARATE ART FROM POLITICS

Kenyan rapper Octopizzo has thrown his support behind George Ruto, son of President William Ruto, following the unveiling of George’s custom matatu dubbed Mood. The artist praised George’s passion for matatu culture while urging Kenyans not to confuse appreciation for urban art with support for the political establishment.

In a statement shared by The Kenya Times on July 19, 2025, Octopizzo said:

“While individuals like George Ruto support and appreciate matatu culture, this doesn’t automatically mean the culture endorses the political regime. The enemy is not George; the enemy is bad governance and a harmful government. Let’s put aside feelings a little and celebrate the culture.”

The rapper further called for the recognition of matatu culture as a national celebration, proposing that June 25th be marked with events that highlight the vibrancy of the sector. He added:

“Now, I want June 25th to be celebrated with that matatu event, followed by my track ‘Noma Ni’.”

Octopizzo’s remarks came just hours after Mood was launched in a vibrant, rain-soaked event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), where thousands of youth turned up to witness George Ruto’s latest project.
