ODM UNITY CALL

Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga has urged members of the party to exercise care in making remarks on the party's political strategy before the 2027 general elections.

In his address to the party's 20th anniversary, Odinga did not wish ODM members to discuss the party's strategy in the next general elections, believing that they should be united in its political strategy.
He even hinted at spearheading a candidate in the 2027 polls, but challenged leaders to keep quiet until ODM issues a statement on what its next move will be.
"Don't commit the party to some things which have not been negotiated. Who told you ODM has no candidate for 2027?" he questioned.

"As ODM, we have a plan that we have come to an agreement on, and let us implement it. Other decisions will be made when the appropriate time comes."
This is even as threats were made by some members of the party who threatened to abandon the party if it endorses President William Ruto in 2027.

Some of them are Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who clarified that party loyalty should not be at the cost of individual faith, especially in matters as serious as backing a presidential candidate.

"Raila himself has also said that this is a democratic party and any member can air their views without fear, but there are goons claiming that I cannot have independent views in the party because I am the secretary-general, that I am the party spokesman all the time," Sifuna clarified last month.

Odinga himself has remained tight-lipped about his desire to run for the presidency in the 2027 election.
