PRESIDENT RUTO HOSTS OVER 10,000 TEACHERS PLEDGES STRONGER INVESTMENT IN EDUCATION

President William Ruto on Saturday hailed teachers as “Kenya’s greatest resource and true patriots,” pledging to keep education at the heart of his administration’s agenda.

Addressing over 10,000 teachers at State House, Nairobi, Ruto praised their dedication, saying they go the extra mile to shape the future of the nation’s children, and emphasized that Kenya owes them immense gratitude.

The President pointed to major strides in the education sector over the past three years, including a budget increase from Sh540 billion to Sh702 billion—the highest in the country’s history. He said reforms had also eased challenges around the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), ensuring a smoother experience for learners and schools.

To improve the teacher–student ratio, Ruto announced that 76,000 teachers had already been recruited, with the number expected to rise to 100,000 by January. He further cited progress in infrastructure, highlighting the construction of 23,000 new classrooms and the launch of the Open University of Kenya.

The President also underscored the new student-focused higher education funding model, which directs resources to learners while strengthening universities and technical and vocational training institutions (TVETs).

Reaffirming his government’s commitment, Ruto said sustained investment in teachers and education infrastructure will be key to producing a skilled workforce capable of driving Kenya’s long-term transformation.
