PRESIDENT RUTO MEETS HARAMBEE STARS DURING MOI STADIUM INSPECTION

President William Ruto on Wednesday 16, July 2025, met with players and officials of the national football team, Harambee Stars, during an inspection tour of the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The Head of State was at the facility to assess the progress of ongoing renovations ahead of Kenya’s hosting of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and co-hosting duties for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
While addressing the team, President Ruto reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting local football and nurturing talent. He praised the players for their dedication and assured them of government backing as Kenya prepares to host major continental tournaments.
“We are revamping our stadiums and sports infrastructure because we believe in the power and potential of Kenyan footballers. It’s time we reclaimed our place in African football,” Ruto said.
The President also challenged the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to improve governance and professionalism within the sport, urging for reforms that will boost Kenya’s football performance and reputation.
He was accompanied by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, FKF officials, and other government representatives. The Kasarani visit is part of a wider stadium inspection tour that includes Nyayo Stadium and other key venues being prepared for CAF accreditation ahead of CHAN 2025.
Kenya is expected to complete all necessary upgrades in the coming weeks, with CAF officials scheduled to carry out final inspections before the tournament kicks off in August.
