Kenya’s President William Ruto has donated Sh2 million to support the grieving family of the late Albert Ojwang’ who died under mysterious circumstances while in police custody. The President’s donation was announced by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga who has also led other leaders in grieving with the family at their rural home on June 16, 2025.The Governor further revealed that ODM leader Raila Odinga called Meshack Ojwang’ who is Albert Ojwang’s father, from abroad to offer his condolences.
The governor has called for swift prosecution of those involved in Abert’s death, emphasizing that justice must be served. Wanga has also said she will donate a three- bedroom house to Albert’s father, Meshack Ojwang’ so that he can have a decent place to live. She stressed that it is devastating for the family to lose their only son while in police custody under very unclear circumstances and urged authorities to take further action to ease the family’s suffering.
Mzee Ojwang’ thanked both the President and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga saying their support has been truly invaluable. Ojwang’ was arrested in Homa Bay County and taken to Nairobi over defamation allegations against Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat. An autopsy conducted by pathologist Bernard Midia revealed that Albert died from a head injury and neck compression.
