Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary (PS) Korir Sing’oei has assured that Margaret Nduta, the Kenyan detained in Vietnam, is coping despite her distress and is being treated humanely by Vietnamese authorities.
PS Sing’oei emphasized that the government is actively engaging with Vietnam to seek a resolution. He recently held discussions with Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nguyen Minh Hang, where he conveyed Kenya’s concerns and requested a stay of execution to explore alternative solutions. According to Sing’oei, Vietnamese authorities have acknowledged Kenya’s appeal and are reviewing the petition.
Additionally, the Foreign Affairs Ministry facilitated a visit by officials from Kenya’s embassy in Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh Prison, where Nduta is being held. The visit aimed to assess her condition and provide consular support.
PS Sing’oei reiterated Kenya’s commitment to diplomatic efforts in resolving the case while warning Kenyan citizens abroad about the severe consequences of drug-related offenses.
