Former Primere , Raila Odinga has finally broken his silence blaming the government and the police for the death of social media influencer, Albert Ojwang.
His death at Central Police Station, Nairobi was announced on Sunday,8, hours after being arrested by the DCI in Migori for allegedly "tarnishing" the DIG's name, Eliud Langat .
Taking to his X page, Odinga questioned the credibility of the state and police , declaring such actions as the impetus for chaos.
“While these deaths cause tremendous pain to individuals and their families, they seriously erode the authority and credibility of the police and the state, and that is a significant step towards chaos and collapse,” the statement went.
“When citizens can no longer tell the difference between the two forms of injustice, police injustice and mob injustice, we are staring at the reality of failure as a nation," he added.
The ODM leader further termed the one who ordered for Ojwang's arrest as the core suspect, adding that the deceased joins the list of the GenZs killed by police brutality.
"So far, nobody knows who gave the orders for Ojwang to be arrested and ferried to Nairobi, and yet that person should be answering to Kenyans. Ojwang now joins the horrifyingly long list of young and defenceless Kenyans whose lives have been taken too soon, in brutal and senseless circumstances, at the hands of the police,” he retorted.
He concluded asking for prompt investigations and the perpetrators to be brought to book.
"A speedy and credible closure to this latest incident of injustice in the hands of the police, alongside the many others that we have been pursuing since 2023, is not optional. The National Police Service must commit to and take concrete actions to hold their own accountable, beginning with this senseless death of Albert Ojwang."
However, a section of Netizens seemed vexed by Raila's statements, some terming his words as hypocrisy since, he is also part of the state that he just criticized in the statement.
Odinga's ODM , which had initially been in the trenches of opposition, joined the Kenya Kwanza government, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU) between the party chiefs , Raila and President Ruto— this birthed the infamous Broad-based government.
However, Raila has constantly been downplaying the fact that they are in government, alleging that the affiliation was to offer his team of competent man power to Ruto's government.
