RUTO DONATES KSH 1M TO LATE COMEDIAN KK MWENYEWE’S FAMILY AS UDA POLITICIANS SPLASH CASH DONATIONS

President William Ruto has donated KSh 1 million to the family of the late comedian Zakaria Kariuki, popularly known as KK Mwenyewe, in a show of solidarity following his sudden death.
The donation was delivered by Dennis Itumbi, head of State House Special Projects and Creative Economy, during a candle-lighting memorial service held in Nairobi on Monday evening.
"It is with the President’s deepest condolences that I hand over this support to KK Mwenyewe’s family,” said Itumbi. “He appreciated the late comedian’s creative work and his ability to inspire laughter in difficult times.”
KK Mwenyewe, known for his humorous impersonations and political satire, passed away last week at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital after a short illness. He had risen to fame online through skits mimicking the Head of State and addressing socio-political issues.
The President’s donation helped raise over KSh 1.5 million, surpassing the KSh 1.2 million initially targeted for funeral arrangements. Other notable donations came from UDA-affiliated leaders including:
Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika – KSh 200,000
Lari MP Mburu Kahangara – KSh 100,000
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah – KSh 100,000
Several UDA youth leaders and local politicians
The comedian’s burial is scheduled for later this week in Njoro, Nakuru County, where family, friends, and fans are expected to gather to pay their last respects.
Ruto’s gesture has drawn praise from many Kenyans who appreciated his acknowledgment of the arts and support for the late entertainer’s family. However, some critics have questioned the growing trend of large cash handouts by politicians during public tragedies.
KK Mwenyewe’s legacy as a rising voice in Kenyan comedy continues to be celebrated online under the hashtag #RIPKKMwenyewe.
