Ruto, Raila 2027 Prediction

On Monday 24, President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga made a friendly meeting at State House, Mombasa. The two longtime rivals hinted at a potential alliance ahead of the much-anticipated 2027 elections.

Their meeting has ignited speculation about a possible coalition, with both leaders promising to reveal their next political steps soon.

Key Raila allies, including Oburu Odinga, lawyer Paul Mwangi, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, and Mining CS Hassan Joho, attended the meeting, signaling the high stakes of this political shift.

Pressure has been mounting from both sides for Raila to join Ruto’s administration possibly as prime minister following his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Some Kenya Kwanza and ODM figures, including Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, have backed this potential alliance.

However, the proposed coalition has met resistance from ODM hardliners like Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, who believe the party should chart its own course in 2027.

The Mombasa meeting also served as a gesture of closure for Raila’s AUC campaign. Both leaders praised each other's efforts, highlighting how the bid helped foster continental unity.

Ruto commended Raila’s leadership during the AUC race, stating, “His candidature was not just about him but about Kenya. He represented our nation with honor.”
