In shock turn of events in Nakuru County, renowned sculptor Philemon Sang, the man behind the statue of President William Ruto, reportedly suffered an assault at the hands of unidentified goons, who also made off with his creation.
The incident occurred as Sang attempted to present the sculpture to an official from the Office of the President.
Eyewitnesses claim that the attack was sudden and violent, leaving the artist shaken but fortunately unharmed. “They came out of nowhere, assaulted him, and took the statue. It all happened so fast,” one local resident recounted.
The sculpture, which had taken Sang months of painstaking work, is now missing, raising questions about security and the safety of artists delivering public works.
Authorities in Nakuru have confirmed receiving a report of the incident and have launched investigations to trace the attackers and recover the stolen statue.
The timing of the attack has raised eyebrows, with many questioning whether it was a random crime or a targeted effort to disrupt the handover.
Social media has since been flooded with calls for justice, as Kenyans express solidarity with Sang and demand accountability.
As the investigation unfolds, the art community is rallying around the sculptor, emphasizing that the theft and assault are not only an attack on an individual but a blow to national pride and artistic expression.
