President William Ruto's long time lawyer Katwa Kigen has suddenly withdrawn from the ongoing interviews for the position of commissioner of the IEBC.
Kigen was to appear before the IEBC selection panel on Thursday, but cited an excuse of his need to avoid unnecessary attention that could distract his role as an IEBC commissioner.
He represented President Ruto during the 2022 presidential petition at the Supreme Court and also in International Criminal Court (ICC).
His presence as a candidate for the commissioner's post had raised concerns of possible impartiality from his side , due to his close relationship with the president. The growing probation over potential conflicts of interest was also a major standoff that forced Kigen's withdrawal.
