SENATE HEARS GOVERNOR AMOS NYARIBO

The Senate will convene and hear charges against Nyamira Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo, a day after his impeachment by the County Assembly.
Through a gazette notice dated Saturday, November 27, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi informed that the House would sit at 2.30 p.m. to consider the motion seeking Nyaribo’s removal from office.

The sitting has been convened under Article 181 of the Constitution, Section 33(3)(a) of the County Governments Act, and Standing Order 80(1)(a) of the Senate Standing Orders.

Governor Nyaribo was impeached on November 25, after 23 out of the 31 MCAs who attended the session voted in support of the motion.

Four other MCAs had written to the Speaker requesting to be included in the voting, but were not counted in the final tally.

The ouster motion, tabled by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere, accuses the governor of abuse of office and violation of legal processes.

Among the charges levelled against him is that he transacted county business through unauthorized “Bunge Mashinani” sittings that had no legal status.

Nyaribo is also accused of irregularly approving county funds to endorse Peris Nyaboke-Oroko as County Agriculture Minister during what was described as a period of unstable leadership in the assembly.

Other claims include the unlawful appointment of committee members for Keroka town and the establishment of a Public Service Board recruitment panel through the same informal sittings, said to have taken place between October 2024 and June 2025.
