In a decisive political maneuver marking the onset of a heated contest for the 2027 general elections, former Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka unveiled a new opposition coalition similar to the 2002 National Rainbow Coalition during a rally held in Kitui County.
The much anticipated announcement took place at Kalonzo Musyoka’s rural home, where thousands of supporters assembled to witness what may signal the dawn of a new political era in Kenya. So far at least seven political parties have expressed interest to join the yet to be launched coalition, with indications that more are poised to follow. The two seasoned leaders, both of whom have held influential positions in national politics, declared their commitment to rally opposition forces nationwide with the goal of removing president William Ruto from power.
