Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration Raymond Omollo, has issued a directive to all social media organisations in the country to establish a physical presence.
This, according to the PS will ensure responsibility and accountability in the face of rising disinformation, social media manipulation, and online abuse.
“All social media organisations operating in the country must establish a physical presence within our jurisdiction,” the PS said.
Speaking during a meeting with telecommunications companies and social media platform representatives earlier today, he further said that the increasing misuse of social media, including harassment, hate speech, and incitement to violence, necessitates immediate and decisive measures.
With the said directive, telecommunications providers and platform owners
will be required to take stronger actions against criminal activities online.
