STOLEN MACHACOS FIREARM RECOVERED

Police in Machakos County's Matungulu have recovered a stolen gun that had been taken from Kinyui Police Station a fortnight ago.

The recovery was made a day after Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko assured that the government will chase the suspect and recover the weapon.

Matungulu Deputy County Commissioner Evelyn Wekesa, who spoke on the matter, said the gun was found on Tuesday evening, dumped in Katine area.
Wekesa stated that although the weapon has been recovered, it lacked the butt stock and the magazine, and all attempts are being made to determine whether the items would be recovered.

She went on to say that the security forces are working day and night to apprehend the suspect, who is still at large.

The recovery follows the reported escalated insecurity in the region, which is said to be related to the stolen gun.

The police in Matungulu, Machakos County recovered a gun stolen two months ago from Kinyui Police Station.

Matungulu Deputy County Commissioner Evelyn Wekesa, who identified the incident, reported the gun was on Tuesday evening recovered, having been abandoned in Katine area.

Wekesa stated that although the weapon had been obtained, it did not have the butt stock and the magazine, and attempts are still being made to attempt and see if those two would be recovered as well.

She added that security agencies are working round the clock to apprehend the suspect, who is on the run.

This follows reports of increased insecurity in the area, which officials believe may be brought about by the stolen firearm.

Locals complained that the lost gun had heightened their vulnerability and increased tension within the community.
