SUDI INSULTS STANDARD NEWS PAPER TERMING " TOILET PAPER"

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has stirred fresh controversy after launching a scathing attack on The Standard newspaper, dismissing it as nothing more than “tissue toilet paper.”

His sharp words, posted online above a widely shared tweet from Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, have further intensified the already heated debate surrounding the Social Health Authority (SHA) reforms.

At the center of the storm was The Standard’s bold front-page headline, “SHA RIP OFF”, accompanied by the grim subtext “Gloom at 15: 2010 Constitution on Trial.” The publication highlighted claims of financial mismanagement, non-existent hospitals, and fears that SHA could undermine the promises of the Constitution.

But CS Duale quickly hit back, “No amount of propaganda or blackmail will deter us from fixing our healthcare system,” he declared on X. “Let them be warned: We are fixing this thing regardless of the noise!”

His remarks, now making rounds on social media has accused unnamed detractors — including sections of the press — of attempting to derail healthcare reforms. Duale framed the overhaul as a national mission to curb fraud and widen access to quality care.

Sudi’s intervention, mocking the paper’s credibility, reinforced a narrative popular among some government allies: that critics of SHA are standing in the way of progress.

Yet beyond the fiery exchanges, concern is mounting. Civil society organizations and health advocates insist that brushing off investigative reporting as “noise” risks suppressing legitimate questions. They argue that with billions of shillings involved and citizens’ health at stake, transparency and accountability remain non-negotiable.

As the rhetoric escalates, the question remains: will the debate over SHA reforms focus on facts and solutions, or descend further into a battle of insults and slogans?
