TAMBACH BOYS HIGH CLOSED AS STUDENTS PROTEST IN MIDNIGHT DEMONSTRATION

Tambach Boys High School in Elgeyo Marakwet County has been closed indefinitely following a student protest in the early hours of Monday July 21, 2025, with learners marching to Iten town. Principal Michael Cheruiyot confirmed the closure, stating that while damage was minimal, the Board of Management had called an emergency meeting to evaluate the situation and determine the way forward. The protest began at around 3.00 am, with students leaving the school in what seemed like a coordinated demonstration. Witnesses reported that the boys appeared agitated but largely peaceful as they walked towards Iten’s central business district.

The incident adds to a growing wave of student unrest in schools nationwide, raising concerns over discipline and welfare in learning institutions. It marks the second indefinite school closure in the region due to protests. The incident at Tambach comes just days after another high-profile protest in the region. Last Wednesday, on July 16, 2025, St. Patrick’s Iten High School was also shut down after students staged a violent demonstration, vandalizing property in opposition to scheduled exams.
