Torongo Girls Shut Indefinitely

Torongo Girls School in Eldama Ravine Subcounty was closed indefinitely after students boycotted classes over the transfer of their principal.

The girls, protesting against recent administrative changes, marched for over 27 kilometres to the Education Offices in Eldama Ravine to register their opposition demanding the retention of Christine Chepkole at the school.

Koibatek Subcounty Educational Director David Kipsang consequently ordered the release of the girls to their homes for security reasons.

He assured them that their grievances would be addressed soon during a scheduled meeting with the school board.

The main issue raised by the students was the recent transfer of their principal to Kaptagat Girls School.

The school board is expected to discuss the matter before the student’s return to school.

Despite the protest, the students were commended for not causing disruptions at the school.

The school recently recorded impressive academic results, emerging the second-best in the subcounty, with a mean score of 7.46, just behind Baringo High School.
