VOTER REGISTRATION TO RESUME ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2025

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will restart continuous voter registration on Monday, September 29, 2025. This initiative is a key part of the preparation for the next General Election. The Commission emphasized that the exercise aligns with its constitutional duty under Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya,2010.

Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon stated that the drive specifically targets young adults who have recently turned 18 and any eligible citizens not yet registered. Kenyans can register, transfer their voting station, or update their details at any IEBC constituency office (excluding areas with ongoing by-elections). The Commission is currently currying out several key activities in preparation for the registration exercise. These includes mapping out registration centres, engaging stakeholders at the constituency level, and consolidating geospatial data to support logistical planning.

Additionally, the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits are being tested and configured, while registration officers are being gazetted and trained. The IEBC is also distributing registration materials, conducting data protection assessments, and implementing a nationwide voter education campaign to raise awareness.

During the registration period, new voters will be required to present a valid national ID or passport at designated registration centres. They will then complete a registration form and provide their biometric and personal details. Upon successful registration, individuals will receive an acknowledgement slip, which serves as proof of registration but cannot be used as identification on election day.

For voters wishing to transfer their registration to a different polling station, the process will be handled at the constituency office in the area where they intend to vote. This will involve filling out Form C and undergoing biometric verification. Registered voters will also be able to inspect and confirm their details via the IEBC online portal at https://verify.iebc.or.ke or by visiting any IEBC constituency office.

However, the Commission clarified that this phase of the exercise will not include voter registration for Kenyans living abroad or those in correctional facilities, as policy reviews are still ongoing in those areas. The IEBC promised to provide further updates once the reviews are complete.

 To be eligible, you must be a Kenyan citizen aged 18 or above with a valid ID or passport. The commission encourages all eligible voters, especially the youth, to participate in shaping the country’s future. The next General Election is scheduled for August 10, 2027.
