Kimani Wainaina, popularly known as Wainaina wa Jungle, has alleged that Moses Kuria’s recent resignation as President William Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor was not merely a personal decision, but a calculated political move aimed at taking over the position of Secretary General in the Jubilee Party.
Speaking during a political event in Kiambu County on Tuesday 8 July 2025, Wainaina claimed that Kuria, a former Cabinet Secretary and Gatundu South MP, is positioning himself to inherit the leadership mantle within Jubilee as part of an internal power realignment.
“Kuria didn’t resign just to go home. He is preparing for something bigger. He is coming to take over as Secretary General of the Jubilee Party. That is the plan,” Wainaina told the crowd.
His comments come just a day after Kuria publicly announced his resignation from State House, stating he had “completed his assignment” and now intends to “pursue other interests.” The former CS expressed gratitude to President Ruto for the opportunity to serve, without giving further details on his next steps.
While Kuria has not responded to Wainaina’s claims, the speculation has stirred discussions within Mt. Kenya political circles, especially among Jubilee loyalists. The party has faced internal divisions in recent years, with competing factions and court battles over its leadership.
Political analysts say the move, if true, could signify an attempt by Kuria to revive Jubilee’s influence in Central Kenya ahead of the 2027 general election.
