Wamuchomba Tells Raila to Retire Incase He Misses AUC Job

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has expressed her views on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, wishing him well while simultaneously urging him to retire from Kenyan politics should he come up short.

Wamuchomba expressed support for Odinga’s AUC ambitions, but maintained that should he not secure the role, he must step aside and not attempt another stab at the presidency in 2027.

“Wacha Mzee apate kazi; Baba has been looking for this job forever. He just needs to be given a good retirement package at the AU,” said the Githunguri MP.

“Wacha Mzee apate kazi so that he can exit the political scene. If he doesn’t get it, he should just go retire in Bondo. We’ll get him a good retirement package as an ex-Prime Minister but he shouldn’t come back to get into the ballot for presidential campaigns."

She added that Kenya needs fresh leadership, emphasizing that leaders who have dominated the political scene for decades are part of the country’s problems. According to Wamuchomba, the next elections should usher in young and dynamic leaders.

Wamuchomba also praised the resolve of Gen Z, saying she admires their energy and determination to reclaim the country’s future.

She urged young people to remain focused and actively participate in shaping Kenya’s leadership, calling on all Kenyans to elect serious leaders who can manage the country’s resources responsibly.

“The young people have decided that the country belongs to them, the future is their country and therefore they have decided to protect the future and I like the energy and resolve in the young people to rescue a country that is sinking. I want to encourage them to continue because the future is theirs," said the legislator.
