"WE'LL SEND RUTO HOME IN ROUND ONE" - WAMALWA UNVEILS 2027 POWER BLOC

Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has revealed plans to form a formidable political coalition aimed at unseating President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview with NTV on Monday, Wamalwa said the alliance will bring together seasoned political figures, including leaders who helped propel the late President Mwai Kibaki to power in 2002.

"We've learnt our lessons. We know he [Ruto] will try to divide us. Already, there are those being prompted to go on their own. But we are assembling a team that will send Ruto home in the first round," Wamalwa stated.

The former Defence Cabinet Secretary disclosed that key figures joining the coalition include former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua.

“You see that 2002 team coming back together, and we are rebuilding the NARC moment for 2027,” he said.

Also reportedly part of the emerging coalition is Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, signaling a wide-reaching political realignment ahead of the next election.

Wamalwa’s remarks come amid growing economic dissatisfaction in the country, with high taxation expected to worsen in the upcoming Finance Bill. “We want Kenyans to have hope. Though you might suffer under the heavy taxes. June is coming and there will be more taxes,” he added.

Meanwhile, Matiang’i appears to be gaining momentum, with Jubilee Party branch leaders endorsing him as their preferred presidential candidate. The move positions the former Interior CS as a frontrunner for the coalition’s flagbearer, intensifying competition within the opposition Azimio la Umoja alliance.

Last year, Matiang’i signed a consultancy agreement with Canadian lobbying firm Dickens & Madson to support his presidential ambitions.

In a parallel development, Martha Karua’s Narc-Kenya party has undergone a major rebrand to the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), aiming to reconnect with younger voters and push a progressive, people-centred agenda.

Karua said the new party identity, marked by purple, lilac, and white colours and a purple rose symbol, reflects values of love, friendship, and peace. “Our slogan is ‘Unite - Liberate,’” she said, emphasizing the party’s renewed focus on unity and accountability.

As momentum builds, the question of who will carry the coalition's presidential flag remains unanswered, with multiple key figures—including Wamalwa—reportedly eyeing the top seat.
