X INFLUENCER ALBERT OJWANG DIES

Albert Ojwang, a popular social media influencer known for his presence on platform X (formerly Twitter), has died under unclear circumstances while in police custody.

Ojwang was reportedly arrested on Saturday afternoon, June 7, in Homabay County by individuals believed to be officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). According to online reports, including posts from blogger and activist Cyprian Nyakundi, Ojwang was transported to Nairobi and held at the Central Police Station.

Nyakundi alleged that the influencer was not officially booked in the station’s Occurrence Book (OB). By Sunday morning, Ojwang had died. Police sources claim he sustained injuries while in custody and died while being rushed to Mbagathi Hospital.

At the time of his arrest, Ojwang was reportedly visiting family in Homabay. Friends and sources close to him claim he had recently traveled from Voi, where he worked as a teacher. Unconfirmed reports suggest his arrest may have been linked to recent posts he made on social media allegedly targeting a senior police officer.

No official statement has yet been released by the National Police Service or the Directorate of Criminal Investigations regarding the arrest, the specific charges, or the cause of death.

This is a developing story.
