The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has delivered a significant blow to the popular public transport company, suspending its operating license with immediate effect.
The NTSA's decision, announced on Thursday, March 20, 2025, stems from a litany of non-compliance issues, raising serious concerns about passenger safety.
According to NTSA, the bus company violated safety laws: 15 vehicles had expired permits, 109 drivers exceeded speed limits and staff contracts breached labour regulations.
“The decision was necessitated by the need to ensure the Company is not only compliant but that it has put in place safety measures to protect the lives of its passengers and other road users,” NTSA said in a statement Thursday.
Super Metro's CEO has voiced strong opposition to the blanket suspension, arguing that isolated incidents should not lead to the grounding of the entire fleet. They have indicated that they are taking steps to rectify the issues, and that they will be appealing the NTSA's decision.
The coming days will be crucial as Super Metro works to address the NTSA's concerns and regain the trust of its passengers. The public, meanwhile, waits to see if a once-trusted transport provider can navigate this turbulent period and return to the roads
