ALLIANCE GIRLS ALUMNI PROTEST OVER TEACHER ABUSE EXPOSE

Alumni of Alliance Girls High School have staged protests following a damning exposé by Africa Uncensored that implicates longtime Christian Union patron Peter Ayiro in years of alleged sexual misconduct involving students.
The investigative documentary, “The Teacher and the System,” details over two decades of alleged grooming and sexual abuse by Ayiro, with testimonies from dozens of former students. The exposé, which was initially barred by a court injunction, was released last week after the order was lifted.
Protesters, most of them former students, held placards and chanted slogans outside the school gates and in Nairobi's Central Business District, demanding Ayiro’s immediate removal and a full investigation into the school’s handling of the matter. A Change.org petition calling for action has garnered over 7,000 signatures.
“This is not just about one man—it’s about a system that enabled him,” said one protester who graduated in 2015. “We demand accountability from the administration and justice for the victims.”
In response, the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Kenya) issued a statement condemning the abuse and called on the Ministry of Education and the school’s Board of Management to take swift action.
“We are demanding not only disciplinary and legal measures, but also the institution of safeguarding policies in all schools,” said FIDA’s Executive Director Anne Ireri.
The Ministry of Education has yet to issue an official response but is under mounting pressure to act. Reports indicate previous complaints dating back to 2018 and 2021 were ignored or dismissed.
As alumni continue to speak out and organize, attention has now turned to broader issues of sexual abuse in Kenya’s schools and the failure of institutions to protect students.
