R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm in an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub. The 36-year-old musician was accused of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Abraham Diaw at the Tape venue on February 19, 2023.
Brown’s co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, also denied the same charge during a plea and trial preparation hearing at London’s Southwark Crown Court. Both defendants face additional charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with Brown also facing a count of having an offensive weapon in a public place.
The court hearing drew significant attention, with around 20 people attending, many of whom were fans of the singer. A trial date has been set for October 26, 2026, with an expected duration of five to seven days.
Brown, who was freed on conditional bail last month, had to pay a £5 million security fee as part of his bail agreement. This financial guarantee ensures the defendant returns to court and may be forfeited if bail conditions are breached.
The singer arrived at the court early, surrounded by photographers, but walked in silence to the building’s entrance. Despite the ongoing legal issues, Brown was able to continue with his scheduled international tour, performing in Wales on Thursday night.
