Kenyan rapper Trio Mio, born Mario TJ Kasela, has finally set the record straight about his ethnic roots, revealing that he enjoys a Luhya - Italian heritage.
In a heartfelt live video alongside his mother, Sofia Irma Sakwa, the young star put an end to years of public speculation about where he comes from. Sofia made it clear that the 'Genge tone' star is proudly Luhya and hails from Butsotso in Kakamega County.
“Trio is Luhya. He’s from Butsotso, Kakamega County,” Sofia said during the livestream, eager to clear up the ongoing rumors.
Trio himself chimed in to explain that fans often mistake him for Kamba or Kikuyu. However, he revealed that his background is actually a rich cultural blend — Italian and Congolese from his father’s side, and Luhya from his mother.
