COST OF A PRESIDENTIAL ADVISOR

Professor Makau Mutua, who doubles as the Senior Advisor on Constitutional Affairs to President William Ruto and Raila Odinga's lawyer has revealed how much he earns in his current role at State House - begging the question on the necessity of his office.

Mutua was engaged in a televised interview where he was called upon to disclose the exact figure it costs to accommodate the post - a matter that he initially hesitated, questioning why it was of public interest. But after further insistence from the interviewer, he conceded of taking home a Cabinet Secretary's salary.

“Why is that important? I am paid the equivalent of a Cabinet Secretary,” Mutua said.

Cabinet Secretaries in Kenya currently receive a gross monthly pay of about Ksh 990,000, including basic salary, house allowance, and market adjustment.

In addition to his advisory role, Mutua was recently appointed as chair of the Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Demonstrations and Protests alongside the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo as vice-chair .

The 15- member panel was launched at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) earlier this month to oversee the compensation of the protests' victims from 2017.

Moses Kuria also served in the capacity of a Senior advisor but it was in the economic role, however he resigned on July, 8 to reflect on his political future.

Ruto's administration has saw an appointment of several advisors in various dockets a situation that has been deemed as an increased burden on the mwananchi's shoulders.
