The High Court has temporarily blocked President William Ruto’s decision to establish a new multi-agency team to spearhead the fight against corruption.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye issued conservatory orders on Wednesday morning, suspending the implementation of the presidential proclamation until the matter is fully heard and determined.
The ruling directs petitioners to serve the application to all respondents in both hard and soft copy by Thursday, August 21.
Respondents and interested parties have until August 29 to file their responses. The petitioners will then have until September 5 to submit rejoinders if necessary.
The development marks an early setback for Ruto’s latest anti-graft strategy, announced just a day earlier, which was meant to consolidate agencies in a coordinated war on corruption.
The case will now proceed to an inter partes hearing, where the court will weigh arguments from both sides before making a substantive ruling.
