Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a nationwide crackdown on rogue boda riders as part of efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the sector.
Speaking in Kisii County on Friday, September 12,2025, Murkomen directed police officers to identify and apprehend individuals using motorcycles to commit robberies and other crimes. He further instructed law enforcement to work closely with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to enforce compliance with regulations, including proper licensing of all boda operators.
“Some of these groups are being used to harass, assault, and torture people. I have already directed security teams to conduct a major crackdown,” Murkomen said. “We must restore order in the boda sector, and we will do so without fear or favour, without malice, and without political bias.”
The CS, however, praised certain boda leaders in various counties who have supported security agencies by sharing intelligence on criminal gangs. His remarks come in the wake of a series of violent incidents involving boda riders.
