FRESH IMPEACHMENT MOTION FILED AGAINST KERICHO GOVERNOR DR. ERICK MUTAI

A new impeachment motion has been formally filed against Kericho Governor Dr. Erick Mutai.

Sigowet Ward MCA, Hon. Kiproitch Rogony, submitted the motion to the Clerk of the County Assembly today. The submission includes supporting documents, a list of MCAs backing the motion, and the required signatures.

The Clerk confirmed receipt of the motion and has referred it to the Assembly Business Committee for consideration and scheduling.
This is the second attempt to remove Governor Mutai from office. A similar motion earlier this year failed to meet the required two-thirds threshold. It garnered 31 votes out of the needed 32 and was later dismissed by the Senate on procedural grounds.

In that instance, Governor Mutai obtained a court order preventing the County Assembly from forwarding the resolution to the Senate. The Senate later upheld the governor’s objection, citing flaws in the impeachment process.

Sources close to the County Assembly now suggest that the new motion addresses legal concerns raised in the earlier process. It is also said to have stronger backing and clearer evidence.

The motion will be tabled in the coming days, pending committee scheduling. If it passes in the Assembly with the required majority, it will proceed to the Senate for further determination under the County Governments Act.

Governor Mutai has not publicly commented on the latest motion. Previously, he described such efforts as politically motivated. The County Assembly is expected to release a formal schedule for the debate in due course.
