The government has released new rules to guide the nationwide recruitment of 10,000 police constables scheduled for October 3–9 across 416 centres.
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) said the exercise will use a hybrid system, allowing applicants to apply online or receive on-site assistance at recruitment centres. The move aims to accommodate candidates with limited internet access.
Commission chair Eliud Kinuthia stressed that the process will be free, fair and transparent, warning applicants against paying bribes. All supervising officers will take an oath of integrity and may face personal liability for misconduct.
Candidates must be 18–28 years old, hold at least a KCSE grade of D+, and meet minimum height requirements—5ft 8in for men and 5ft 3in for women. They must be physically and medically fit, with no criminal record. Female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.
Applicants will be required to download and fill the prescribed form, providing personal details, education history and referees. Supplying false information is a criminal offence under Section 25 of the NPSC Act.
Kinuthia added that slot allocation will consider population, poverty levels and representation of marginalized groups, with reserved slots for underrepresented communities.
The Commission urged interested Kenyans to follow official channels on npsc.go.ke and warned that the recruitment exercise remains free of charge.
