Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo has been impeached by the County Assembly after 16 out of 18 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) endorsed a motion accusing him of violating public office ethics.
The impeachment motion sailed through with no opposition, while two MCAs were absent during the session. Governor Guyo did not appear before the Assembly to respond to the accusations, despite being officially invited in accordance with parliamentary procedure.
The decision follows a period of county-wide consultations that included public participation forums, legal assessments, and intense debates in all ten wards.
Speaker of the County Assembly is now expected to forward the resolution to the Senate, which will review the matter in line with Article 181 of the Constitution and Section 33 of the County Governments Act, to determine whether the impeachment will be upheld.
The motion to impeach was tabled by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana, who claimed the governor had violated multiple laws governing leadership and integrity.
“Governor Guyo has contravened Chapter Six of the Constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act, and the Public Officers Ethics Act,” said Godana, stressing that leadership must be anchored on transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.
The County Assembly affirmed that its decision was driven by the need to safeguard good governance and accountability in Isiolo.
Governor Guyo faces charges of gross misconduct, breach of the Constitution, and abuse of office. His political future now hinges on the Senate’s verdict.
