GOVT TO ROLL OUT INSTANT FINES FOR MOTORISTS, BODA BODA RIDERS

The government is set to introduce an instant fines system targeting motorists and boda boda riders who flout traffic rules.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir said the plan—crafted jointly by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), police and the Judiciary—will use intelligent traffic cameras at key junctions to capture violations in real time. Offenders will be issued a ticket and a PayBill number to settle penalties on the spot or within a set period.
Chirchir noted the initiative aims to ease congestion in courts by handling minor traffic offences administratively and to enhance discipline on Kenyan roads.
A Cabinet memo seeking final approval is being prepared. The proposal also outlines how revenue from the fines will be shared among the implementing agencies.
