GOV’T URGES CALM AS PROBE LAUNCHED INTO MYSTERY DISEASE IN MOMBASA

The Ministry of Health is urging Kenyans to stay calm after four people died under unclear circumstances in Mombasa, with concerns rising over a possible mysterious illness.

The four, all elderly residents of Migadini in Changamwe, reportedly suffered from body swelling and pus-filled wounds before passing away. Locals feared the symptoms pointed to a contagious outbreak.

However, Health Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth addressed the issue while speaking in Kisumu, saying early investigations suggest the deceased had pre-existing medical conditions. He noted that no other similar cases had been reported outside the area.

“We have not established any clear pattern. Our team, led by the Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor, is on the ground,” said Amoth. “Some of the victims were already in contact with health facilities. So far, there is no cause for alarm.”

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale confirmed that samples from the bodies have been sent to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) labs in Kilifi for thorough analysis. The ministry says results will guide the next steps and be shared with the public in due course.

“All the tests have been sent to KEMRI. Once the findings are in, we’ll inform the country of the exact cause,” said Duale.

Authorities maintain the situation is under control and are asking the public not to panic as they await official test results.
