High Temperature with Scorching Heat. Kenya Meteorological Department Warns

Kenya is set to experience intense heat from February 25 to March 3, 2025, with temperatures soaring above 30°C in most regions. According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, the scorching conditions will dominate, with only a few areas receiving light showers.

Areas receiving light showers include Mount Kenya, the coastal region, Tana River, and Taita Taveta, though the rains will be minimal and offer little relief from the heat.

Interestingly, the nights will bring a stark contrast, with parts of Central Kenya, the Rift Valley, and areas around Mount Kilimanjaro experiencing temperatures below 10°C. The shift from scorching days to chilly nights will require adjustments in clothing and lifestyle.

With the rising temperatures, residents are advised to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Outdoor activities should be minimized, especially during peak heat hours between 10 AM and 4 PM. Light, breathable clothing will help manage body temperature, while proper ventilation indoors will create a cooler environment. The extreme heat can be particularly dangerous for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, young children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions. Extra care should be taken to ensure their well-being during this period.

Despite the dry conditions, it is essential to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts. The Kenya Meteorological Department urges the public to monitor official updates through their website at meteo.go.ke. As the country braces for this heatwave, preparing in advance will help residents stay safe and comfortable. The combination of high daytime temperatures and chilly nights requires proper planning, from hydration and clothing choices to limiting unnecessary outdoor exposure. By taking these precautions, Kenyans can navigate the extreme weather with minimal disruption to their daily routines
